Winter’s Neon + Vanilla Beet Smoothie

Image

Hello loves, here I am. It feels like months and months since I last updated this lovely space of mine. I’d be lying if I said life has been all things sparkle and glitter lately. I’ve been brushed with a lot of emotion on so many different levels. Mainly, I cannot think of any other description besides this; life has been, winter. Since my last ‘mini-post’, writing- really anything- has felt a bit forced. Especially if I’m trying to share a fun post. So I’ve summed it into this: It’s another stage of this bright life, a time and place where we’re supposed to really pay attention to the present. Not document it so much.

Although, I’ll admit, that thought sometimes seems funny to me. Most of our lives almost have to be documented these days, in so many social standards. And I’m just as guilty as any other. Continue reading “Winter’s Neon + Vanilla Beet Smoothie”

Pretty Picks: Drugstore (Natural) Beauty

Pretty Picks: Glow Natural
 There are some topics that just simply don’t get old, and somehow drugstore beauty products make that cut. I’m kind of obsessed at looking at simple priced beauty products that never let a girl down.  So, yesterday I decided to pull together some of my own favorite natural drugstore-priced products. I’ve been seeing a lot of them popping up by fellow bloggers out there, but mostly there are no natural products that get mentioned.  Maybe they’re just looked over?  I always try to get the word out about how easy it is to switch to really good, natural, skincare. Especially when you’re on a budget, it’s still a really easy switch! These are the products that I absolutely adore and always find myself purchasing as complete ‘must-haves’ time and time again, so I hope you enjoy! (p.s…the Kiss My Face peaches and cream moisturizer is an all-over moisturizer (body & face) and it works absolute miracles- I’m a cult follower of this product– no lie.)

I’d like to know, what are some of your favorite drugstore-priced natural products that you’ve come across? I’d love to hear what you guys have found as your ‘must-haves’! xo.

Pretty Picks For August

Iamwearing

I love makeup. I love skincare. I’m a complete beauty junkie, however, I’m really big on only using natural products. With that being said, I have probably tried everything under the sun for my skincare routine (makeup + facial care), and even though I like to try out new things here and there, I am obsessed with certain brands that I know will never let this girl down. I also have super(rrr) sensitive skin, so I really have to watch out what I put on my face or else it’s…disaster. Continue reading “Pretty Picks For August”

Blushing Berries: DIY Beauty

Image

Speaking of keeping myself balanced with fun projects, I am always up for a good DIY project- especially when it involves homemade products for your skin. There is something really light and refreshing about not questioning whether you are applying some sort of heavy synthetic chemicals or disease-causing additives on your skin. Not to mention using fun, summer-inspired, ingredients that won’t cost you ten bucks for a tube of questionable goo. I’ve been playing around the idea of creating a natural, berry cheek & lip stain…and I think I finally got it down. It’s not a hard process and definitely fun for a lazy weekend ‘craft’. It’s my first time playing around with the idea, so if anyone tries this out and has some suggestions of their own spins and tricks, do let us in my dears! Simply leave me a comment below. Anyhow, cheers to pretty berry makeup for summer evenings out! xoxo.

{I clearly used cupcake holders (the plastic-ish kind) because they bend really well, especially after you are pouring blackberry juice (hopefully not) everywhere}

ImageImageImageImageImage

In first mixing bowl, add about a tablespoon of your choice of facial oil (mine is a mix of organic almond, argan, ylang ylang, and vanilla bean by a local producer called Small Keys, which is amazingness) and about a teaspoon of shea butter- mix together. First step is to Mash the blackberries in your mixing bowl, making sure you really pay attention to separating the pulp from the berry’s juice. Next Pour your berry juice (remembering to separate pulp) into your mixing bowl of facial oil and shea butter. Mix the oils and berry juice together, this is probably the hardest part because you want the color broken into the oil as much as possible. Final step is to Heat your mixture. I used the stovetop on a med-high heat for about one minute, just make sure it never bubbles- you are just looking for the color to really become a part of the oils. Carefully pour your lovely new berry lip/cheek stain into your repurposed compact; stick in the freezer just a tad bit to hang out with your skinny girl vodka (of course), so it can set. I will admit, it’s best to store your berry stain in a compact that has a deeper setting. Often times, the natural oils will change consistency depending on varying temperatures. In this case, leftover eyeshadow compacts (think, baremineral’s eyeshadow) are usually best. I simply used my compact below because it was one of the only free spaces in my makeup drawer at the moment. Keep this in mind, and you’ll be good to go.

Voila! Berries- beauty’s best friend. xoxo, loves.

Bring it to the Beach: Natural Goodies to Get Your Glow On.

Image

1. There are plenty of shimmery highlighters out there, but this one is natural, and gives a dewy shimmer for a subtle glow for all skin tones- plus, the argan oil helps to keep skin moisturized while we glow. It’s a definite go-to for summer. (Josie Maran Illuminizer)

2. Keep your skin soft, hydrated, and protected with this MyChelle skin-loving, chemical-free, SPF. It also has a hint of natural coconut for some extra love. (MyChelle-SPF Sun Shield)

3. My absolute favorite BB cream- it protects against UVA/UVB rays with natural SPF 30, helps with anti-aging, gives your skin moisture, all while creating a lovely glow. Definitely a ‘foundation’ with the punch of a skin treatment. Love, love, love. (Tarte BB Cream)

4. Give your skin some silky ‘after-sun’ love with Savannah Bee Company’s Royal-Jelly Body Butter. Packed with goodies your skin needs after being out in the sun all day- like vitamins, lipids, and amino acids- it’s ‘naturally’ a must. The scent is amazing as well, with some ‘southern inspired’ goodness, pecan butter and blackberry. Yum. (Savannah Bee Body Butter)

5. Again, Josie Maran is a wonder and I’m a devout new fan. Her new Coconut Water Cheek Gelee’s are like summertime packed into tiny packages. If you have sensitive skin, like this girl, it is literally a blush from heaven- not to mention it also makes for a beautiful lip color. I’m a fan of ‘Poppy Paradise’, but I literally stood in Sephora forever trying to decide the best color. Amazing. xoxo. (Josie Maran Coconut Cheek Gelee)

5. Of course, a new favorite for beach days are all things ‘Daisy-inspired’ (courtesy of my obsession with The Great Gatsby). For extra sun protection I thought this lovely, Daisy-channeling, peach-hued J.Crew hat what would look lovely while catching up on some reading. (J.Crew summer hat)

Channeling The 60s: Edie+Twiggy Eyes For Your Weekend.

Image

There are certain trends that feel seriously played out when it comes to matters of makeup. Especially really dramatic looks that feel way too overdone to wear in everyday life. To me, simplicity is always the winner. Simple makeup is classic- a staple, highlighter of your natural beauty. However, there are just some cases where ‘dramatic’ ends up winning. For instance, Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick’s staple of dramatized eyes during the 60s, in which, they pulled off effortlessly.

Image

 I’ve always wanted to try it out, but for one, I had no clue where to start. I mean, not that it stopped me- who knows how many times I ended up staring back into the mirror looking like a raccoon gave me makeup advice.

ImageImage

 However, I finally found that the key is balance, and not everyone will look good with a white eyeshadow/highlighter as the foundation for this look (as most DIY’s stand by). When you figure out what balance is right for you, it’s a fun way to add a little something to brighten your eyes while keeping everything else, simple. Especially when you want a playful look for weekend festivities. The below picture is pretty simple to see how to mock this iconic look. Hint: It doesn’t have to be perfect, that’s definitely another key. Have fun with it! We’re young!

{Quick Tips}

1. Use a yellow concealer and dot around eyes, and under.

2. Dot a pretty highlighter around your eyes, I don’t suggest using white- however, yellow or peachy undertones are most welcomed.

3. The rest is pretty much described in the picture above, I didn’t use false lashes when I did mine, too much work.

 4. Oh, and if you mess up on step 4, the key to mine was just making little eyeliner dots on the under-eye rims, instead of dragging the eyeliner. Then just follow with lots(sss) of mascara.

{What I Used}

Physician’s Formula Yellow Wear Mineral Concealer in Soft YellowOrigins Brightening Cream Eyeshadow in Ginger Zing, Pacifica Natural Minerals Eye Shadow in Enlighten, Tarte Lights, Camera Action! Mascara, Physician’s Formula Eye Booster in Ultra Black

Hope this sets the weekend off to a fun start. xoxo.

Monday Morning Madness: Birthday-Filled Weekends; Children’s Books, Cocoa Butter, and Cardigans.

Morning Loves. Hope your weekend was a dear.

This is a spastic post. Mainly because I was all over the place this weekend, and well, pretty much altogether.

For starters, my Monday morning was an early one. I’ve been up since seven and it wasn’t the most relaxing morning, or weekend for that matter. For sure.

The weekend was met with exactly three birthdays, and looking back, it almost seems I haven’t been anywhere but a car for the better part of all of them. So to the parent’s house I went, partly because one of the birthday’s included my Father’s 72nd birthday, which still seems crazy to me! I can never quite grasp he was born in 1940, but his history has made a big impact of my own life, and so for that I will forever be grateful.

However, to add to the madness, there were a lot of question marks as to what random ideas I would pull together for a gift, but, there is one thing my father does adore. Food (as any man, of course). So I found some knicks and knacks of sorts which perhaps might help you if you’re in a crunch during a loved one’s birthday, as I was;

1. Sarabeth’s Strawberry-Rhubard Jam; Which may I say I had this a.m. and it was delicious/highly recommended.

2. This fancy Grapeseed Oil for high-heat cooking, plus the company itself seems pretty awesome.

3. Oh, so salty, Capers for Fall-inspired recipes.

4. Garlic-Basil Oil for bread dipping/quick appetizers.

5. A large ice-cube tray for cocktails- it’s great because the ice melts slowly so your drinks don’t become too watery!

5. And, an awesome versatile (stove top, oven, microwave!), Italian Terracotta, cooking pan. Which also helps because it’s Green. 🙂

After the present was already given, of course, I realized a good coffee would have been another great addition. Then again, there is still Christmas’s steady approach. However, all in all, it was kind of a perfect assortment because both my Mom and Dad could use it, which made me feel like I didn’t leave her out. So that was nice. Anyhow(www)…

Even in the hectic last-minute birthday cake runs, present searching, and deciding on an either funny or serious card (another dreaded decision!), laughter filled a lot of the craziness in. Which isn’t too hard because I have one of the funniest people in the world around a lot of the time, my boyfriend (aww, haha.), but, this book made for a pretty good competition. Have you ever heard of SkippyJon Jones? My niece’s fourth birthday was this weekend and I looked high and low for a good children’s book and came across this absolute jewel. We read it on the way to their house and…hysterical. Seriously, I haven’t laughed at a children’s book since I was a child myself, and for any parents out there/crazies like me whom love funny randoms…this book is too cute and hilarious!

 He kind of reminds me of Ciel, my precious pup. Whom Liddy (my niece) is obsessed with. She was her baby for the day, below. Too precious (haha!).

 Happy (now belated-ish) Birthday!

Another high, the weather. It was a chilly cool which called for two essentials; 1. Jason’s Cocoa Butter (heart, heart, heart!) because my skin seems to be switching to dehydration mode (<—post I’ll touch on very soon!), 2. and a little more layering. I wore a light beige J.Crew chunky cardigan I bought last year and practically lived in it yesterday. It was pretty much amazing. Aside from my makeup-less face and non-strategical ‘messy hair’ look, but whatever.

On that note, this rainy morning is definitely calling for a latte. Au revoir, my beautifuls. xoxo.
