Holiday Gift Ideas: Flowering Frame DIY

Image

Hi lovelies! It’s a rainy, lazy, Monday here.  Plus it’s super cold and obviously miserable.  Seeing as I’m off work, my day will indeed consist of a warm latte, a movie that indefinitely will include Meg Ryan (i.e. When Harry Met Sally), and a couch. So, I thought why not share a post I never published from October? It’s kind of brilliant if you ask me, seeing as I threw it together literally last minute for a magazine I was contributing to at the moment. It’s super easy, budget-friendly, and actually really quite nice and unique. I’m thinking a perfect gift idea for the holidays! Oh, and if you’re wondering, the picture is of my parents from the late 70s. xo Hope you enjoy:

Happy Weekend, Loves

Image{finally starting this book for weekend reading, super excited}

What happens when we make promises? We randomly get super busy. That’s what happened to my updates lovelies. Mostly it’s been me trying to get some professional aspects a-going, which has been a bit of an up-and-down sorta’ ordeal. Seeing I haven’t updated much of my current life lately, I am now working as a Medical Aesthetician for a wellness spa. Of course, as of right now I’m also helping with the website, social media, and things of that nature seeing as it is a new place trying to get their feet on the ground. I’m clearly a product junkie so working there will definitely be equal parts like a candy store in my eyes. If I find any goodies in the lines we carry, you know I’ll be sharing them with you guys ;). The downside is I’m driving a good bit to get there (45 mins…eh), but as I know- life comes with a good bit of balance, whether good or not so good. Continue reading “Happy Weekend, Loves”

Fairs, Friends, Flowers, Pink Skies, Birthdays, and Hiding.

ImageImage

{p.s. it’s officially fall and oxblood is now my favorite color ever/all my outfits- can you tell?}

As it’s beyond obvious, I’ve flown into a bit of a slump/ and or/ in hiding. One of those slumps that happens in our 20s in the most unexpected times. Times where, in the middle of our unstoppable laughter, we stop laughing. I’m usually good with being honest with myself and keeping myself grounded, but a few weeks ago I realized life wasn’t quite reflective of where I thought I would be. Some predisposed notion of where I was supposed to be kept wrapping itself around my mind. A certain place, with certain things, and certain titles, that would validate any shortcomings or be some sort of trophy for obstacles I’ve been through. Perhaps a pretty white office, with fresh flowers, and streets of eccentric people were the answer. Some kind of world governed by Pinterest and Domino magazine was what I was hoping for? The more I felt it ‘haunt’ me, the more I began to ask myself exactly why I was feeling this way.

I’ve came up with a pretty good answer in the past week. Sometimes in the midst of modern communication and feeling inadequate to the constant surge of success we get to compare ourselves to, I often forget to simply and truly…let go. Fearing moments where we don’t feel like we’ve accomplished much takes up a lot of life.  Especially when we’re so connected to how others are doing and where they are in their own life. The funny thing is we often forget we don’t even truly see what we’ve accomplished and left behind in this world until our life is nearing the next world- or whatever we believe in. So, that’s why I’ve been a little, well, gone for the past few weeks. I’m pretty big on giving myself time to reflect and ask ‘why’ when I feel out of balance, it gives our minds a certain independence of thought. So, mostly what I’ve been doing lately is trying to get used to being okay with they way things are now, right now. Maybe I’m not where I thought I would be, but that doesn’t mean I’m not where I’m supposed to be. If I think back at all the steps I’ve taken until this very moment, a lot of them weren’t taken in assurance or even in acceptance, but they did make me grow and become better. That’s all I can ask for. So, maybe these feelings were meant to be so I can eventually get me to another stage of life. Life is a circle, a beautiful circle.

Anyhow, honestly, writing is one of the only ways I feel like my soul is completely whole. And sharing my ponders with you guys is beyond therapeutic, so I don’t think I’ll be gone that long again anytime soon. 🙂

Into lighter news, I’m now 24- my birthday was this past Wednesday. So I suppose I’ll officially be sharing another year in my 20s with you guys. This past one was…colorful, so I’m sure this year won’t be anything less. I could ramble for another hour, but I believe I’ll just breathe and share some of my current photographs I’ve taken of life lately, instead. I have so many that I really couldn’t wait to share some of them. It’s literally a bit of everything- bright sunflowers for bday presents (are the best), pink sky sunsets with friends, my family’s cabin in the mountains of NC (there has been a good amount of reconnecting with nature/the little white shack isn’t the cabin, haha), a pre-baby roller coaster freakout with my niece (while she was totally fine) + her Tinkerbell-inspired birthday, a fun idea for using christmas lights (i.e…my fireplace is epic now), DIY ice-cream cone cupcakes (perhaps a post coming soon?),  oh- and veggie nachos can cure any feeling of being down, my boyfriend picking wildflowers for moi (ahh), etc. Warning: Serious picture randomness is about to take place.

DIY With A (Re)Purpose: Gypsy Candle Holders

ImageImage

If you’re anything like me, you have about one thousand (and two) empty once-upon-a-time candle holders. Just chillin’, hangin out around your house. Why? I don’t really know, maybe I’m a hoarder? All I knew is that I need to recycle half of them, and the other half I want to paint. So last night started out with Pukka Harmonise tea, which I’m really loving lately (however, let’s be honest, I moved on to beer right afterwards), lots of splattered paint, and jammin’ to Mazzy Star. P.s. that’s the best jaded radio station ever, I’m kind of addicted. Anyhow, this is what became of my collection, so far. I’m sure I’ll do about 1000 posts of ideas of how to paint them. It’s super easy, and I’m always wanting to add pretty colors to my apartment without calling (or spending) out for a tacky vibe. Also, my lighting last night was less than impressive, we’ll pretend it was amazing:

 Directions: After your first base-coat dries, you want to continue with lighter paint and use swift, upwards, strokes. After the first round of the using the lighter paint around the base, you don’t want to let it completely dry. Only about half-dry. Wait until it’s a bit, well, ‘gooey’ still. That way, you can get more of a ‘swirling effect’ as you continue with your second-coat, continuing painting upwards. I played around with about a total of 3 to 4 ‘half-dried’ coats.  The colors then become more blended, and it gives the, as seen, ‘rustic-gypsy’ effect. For the ‘Bubble Gum’ candle holder, you can see I just put flecks of the ‘Habanero’ (aka red) by simply dotting where I wanted the color and used the same upwards technique. Easy & pretty cool.

I was clearly just playing around last night, so mine are pretty simple, but I was thinking how cool would black look swirled-in with all the light colors? Also, feel free to use a gloss for a more polished look- I chose the more rustic route, clearly. Here’s how I’m using mine:

Foxes, Glitter, & Paradise: Home Inspiration

Image

I’m a big believer that a few, simple, changes can make a place feel like home vs. merely a place you live. So while I was scavenging today, I came across these lovelies that I think would make little changes, but a big difference. To be honest, I’m kind of obsessed with them all (not to mention the title, can I deem that the name of my future book?) Yes, yes indeed, because who wouldn’t want to read Foxes, Glitter, & Paradise? I’m on it. I wish I was kidding. Anyway, I also wanted to keep everything in a reasonable price range, so everything is below $100. Not to mention every piece would definitely add a little whimsical-worthy fun to your home.

What are your favorite ways to decorate? Also, I feel like a lot these would double as cool gift ideas, don’t you? Have a fox & glittered-inspired weekend, whatever that means. xoxo til’ next loves.

In My Cup: Simple Inspirations From Friends.

Image Image

Even though all I can dream about lately is my favorite season, Fall, I decided I might as well embrace summer here and there before it’s gone. To be completely honest my week has been little sparks of wonderful, and other moments have been a drab. Lots of pondering on where in the hell I’ll be living in exactly one month from now, and trying to find a new job that won’t make me completely miserable, and also balancing heavier thoughts of the universe (i.e. oh, you know, just the meaning of life and all.) On the other hand, I have definitely had my fair share of catching up with friends lately whom I haven’t spoken to in a while, which is always a welcomed change.  For instance, one of my closest friends lives in Asheville, NC and just got a new ‘big-girl’ awesome job where her job title includes camping eight straight days every 2 weeks. How amazing is that? Of course we talked about it for about an hour like two crazed 20somethings having a rare ‘hey, things are going to be okay’ moment. Ah, to have a job hanging out in nature? Lovely. She is a newly-licensed Recreational Therapist, so to score a job within a huge Wellness center is definitely nothing short of amazing.  She will be helping people with substance abuse problems- what a wonderful way to be around people and nature everyday and to give back in a way. It made me rethink a lot of where I’m heading, and where I want to go. Good vibes. Anyhow, hope you loves are having a wonderful Thursday! xoxo. Here’s a few things that have made my life a bit more whimsical as of late, the first being Jessica (whom I talked about in this post) and me in the ridiculous boa, naturally:

White Spaces Lovely Places

ImageImage

In a couple weeks I’m moving…for something like the ninth time in three years. While some, indeed, cringe at this fact, I absolutely adore change. In fact, I crave it when it comes to getting to decorate a new space to call home. I walk around with billowy dreams full of pinteresting anything and everything- offering up my fondest, nonchalant, words to the person realizing I’ve been staring at a computer screen non-stop for three hours. “But Pinterest is inspiring me, I’m being inspired“, I will most definitely recite in my most serious tone. My ‘look’ completed with red-lined eyes that compliments the red hair wiring around my face. Ignoring their ignorance for my craft they’ve clearly overlooked, I will continue on- pretending I’ve won some sort of major title for my gift of interior-design. Promoted by Domino Magazine, undoubtedly.

This has already been going on for days, and one usually needs a broom to knock me off my cloud. Any kind of broom will do. “Oh, it’s an addiction for the creative’, I’ll casually tell myself in denial. Perhaps you’ll join me? We can be in denial of Pinterest’s addiction together, it’ll be lovely. In no particular order, here are some of my favorites that I wholeheartedly intend on trying to re-create in small ways, very soon…

Feelin’ inspired yet? Oh, and just as a p.s. Maple + Shade and My Parradissi, are two amazing interior design blogs (Hannah Maple, of ‘Maple + Shade’, is out of Kentucky and she has done some amazing work)! So if you’re movin’ in the near future and need a couple of styling tips for your new home, they’re definitely my picks! xoxo loves.
