Happy Birthday USA + What I’m Adoring.

Image

Happy Birthday lovely country of mine! Sadly, it’s raining cats and dogs here in NC and there isn’t going to be much of any grilling out, sun bathin’ or fireworks (which is probably a good thing seeing I can be pretty hazardous at times), but there will be writing like a maniac for a super fun project coming up, drinking good beer, and making these delicious fish tacos from Cup of Joe. We’ll rock with what we’ve got…right? However, I hope the weather is a little better for you guys!

Anyhow, I’m sort of a adoring these simple, ‘on-or-after the 4th’, pieces from two awesome designers! Mostly because, today especially, it would be amazing if they would magically appeared in our closets- but mainly because I love anything that seems effortless, laid back, and lovely on everyone. xoxo. Cheers to a Happy 4th! (and yes, that’s my dog Ciel shopping with me the other day)

{via: Abby Hoe is the lovely designer behind Miss Hoe in NYC (2 Prince St.), and I’ve known her since the beginning. She has such classic and fun pieces from vintage clothing, intricate jewelry- to funky stuffed animals that she makes herself! This Cropped Sweater dress is darling and reminds me of a picnic with the Kennedy’s (can that happen?). I am really diggin’ her dresses as of late, they have such a wonderful crisp, comfortable, and clean feel. Shop her here.}

{via: This new canvas bag from Allison Howingson is everything (seen here, too). It has all the rustic, bohemian edge that I love, to make for a fun, and comfortable, new staple. She is also feeling pretty festive, giving everyone free shipping on her Etsy site the whole month of July! Shop her here.}

lots of holiday cheer, my dears, and a special thanks to the designers for being a part of this post…xoxo!

White Spaces Lovely Places

ImageImage

In a couple weeks I’m moving…for something like the ninth time in three years. While some, indeed, cringe at this fact, I absolutely adore change. In fact, I crave it when it comes to getting to decorate a new space to call home. I walk around with billowy dreams full of pinteresting anything and everything- offering up my fondest, nonchalant, words to the person realizing I’ve been staring at a computer screen non-stop for three hours. “But Pinterest is inspiring me, I’m being inspired“, I will most definitely recite in my most serious tone. My ‘look’ completed with red-lined eyes that compliments the red hair wiring around my face. Ignoring their ignorance for my craft they’ve clearly overlooked, I will continue on- pretending I’ve won some sort of major title for my gift of interior-design. Promoted by Domino Magazine, undoubtedly.

This has already been going on for days, and one usually needs a broom to knock me off my cloud. Any kind of broom will do. “Oh, it’s an addiction for the creative’, I’ll casually tell myself in denial. Perhaps you’ll join me? We can be in denial of Pinterest’s addiction together, it’ll be lovely. In no particular order, here are some of my favorites that I wholeheartedly intend on trying to re-create in small ways, very soon…

Feelin’ inspired yet? Oh, and just as a p.s. Maple + Shade and My Parradissi, are two amazing interior design blogs (Hannah Maple, of ‘Maple + Shade’, is out of Kentucky and she has done some amazing work)! So if you’re movin’ in the near future and need a couple of styling tips for your new home, they’re definitely my picks! xoxo loves.

What I’m Adoring: Favorites, Here, And There.

{This Urban Outfitters Pink Striped Tank is heavenly soft (wearing above) and on sale}

{Rebecca Taylor shared the best summertime cocktail, ever}

This week has been pretty sweet, so far; I got a call from a prior employer that made me feel like I was made of honeysuckles and sweet molasses (wrong number? perhaps.), I am just about finished with an awesome interview with Vitamin Angel’s that I’m super stoked about sharing with you guys, a somewhat troubled friendship is perhaps on it’s way to health, fun writing opportunities are falling out of the sky, and awesome people are randomly everywhere all of the sudden and I’m surely diggin’ it. I just can’t complain right now. So, I’m feelin’ pretty ‘roll the windows down and blare the music’-ish. I can actually see me now…”I DON’T CARE, I LOVE IT!”, as the people beside me at the stoplight whisper sweet nothings at the sheer epic-ness of my less-than-impressive adaptation of the song. Whatever, as long as my destination serves the best Sparkling Sangria ever (above) let em’ laugh, I’m untouchable!…kind of.

Anyway, I think a really awesome lesson I’m beginning to learn is if you put yourself out there enough- even when it scares you a little bit- good things start to be created in the midst. There are people out there just like you that really are worth finding, and I’m a big believer in everything happening for reason. Ah, the life of being in your twenties…and the lessons you accidentally stumble upon, brilliant. But on with it, here’s what I’m adoring and inspiring me as of late…xoxo.

In My Cup: Pre-Weekend Ponders.

I’m in love with finding cool reads, especially ones that plenty of us (20somethings) can relate to- like this and this-awesome articles.  I’m pretty much addicted.

With all the rain and dreariness, somehow I have found myself looking through fall-ish inspired looks, in a few months everything about her/outfit aura will need to be in my life.

‘Mapple Bacon Cookies.’ while flipping through the always amazing Garden &Gun. p.s…they’re maple-baked apples with sort-of-bacon. Heavenly. vegan & gluten free made with this wonderfulness. Recipe soon? Yes.

‘Chic’ Flicks (yes. I did spell it that way to be awesome.): A new go-to amongst ‘The Notebook’, ‘P.S. I Love You’, and ‘When Harry Met Sally’- for rainy days in, of course.

Best pink for summer: ‘Pin Up Pink’ Pop Beauty. + cozy blankets.

Love this App, subscribe. You won’t regret it if you love to write.

I’m going to the beach next week, and this little beauty is wonderful to help with UV recovery. It is full of skin brightening and healing goodies- like peptides that help with anti-aging and any dark spots, while also using Apple Stem Cells known to keep skin bright and healthy. Plus it smells like Apple Whiskey…for your face! I’m sorry, but who can beat that? I’m already a week in, and I braved up and took a kind-of clear sans-makeup picture to show some results. Love.

Rainy days and little French bistros are a delicious combination. If you’re ever around Charlotte, NC, this is a pretty cute place to try out.

Have a lovely, and hopefully sun-filled, weekend. xoxo, Laura.

Love, love, love. Oh, and don’t get me started with the below. They are literally my perfect flat. Foxes= more love.

A Life In The Day, Of ‘One Of Those Days’.

Image

Today started as a normal, lovely, day. I had an eye appointment, seeing that I’m a blind mouse and desperately need new glasses, so things were running as smooth as icing, considering. I arrived…on time, big plus. The coffee-shop had my favorite coffee, double plus. The waiting room had Garden and Gun, the best magazine ever- which was enough to be a day maker. Fast-forward. In the office I waited, and finally the usual abrupt, hurried, doctor appeared and checked everything out. ‘You’re basically blind’, sweet/check. Perfect. Small talk occurred as if he actually gave a damn about my life- you know how it goes. I usually try to counteract this and have a somewhat genuine conversation with anyone I meet, so I really gave it a try this morning because things felt particularly pink and rosy. I was feeling good. (Abrupt halt music, cue!) I truly don’t know if it was the joke I told the Optometrist about my eyes being sensitive in elementary school and my wearing sunglasses that had me resembling somewhat of a alien-type figure on the playground and him NOT laughing at all, or the fact I suddenly realized I’m 23 and have no clue what my life resembles, besides wanting to save the world. God only knows, but I’m sure he knew I crashed like a fox driving a car. And no, I have no clue what that means. Come to think of it, speaking of foxes and crashes and nonsense, it’s almost comical the kaleidoscope of emotions you go through as a young woman in your 20s on any given day in 2013. Maybe you’ll relate: One moment everything is most pristinely represented by spectacular fireworks, kittens, and Michael Cera-ish humor, you’re about to be able to afford your, life! And then suddenly we’re, like, lighting black candles and drinking wine from the bottle, and barely able to scrap up enough cash to buy half of an apple. Extremes? Yes, but life blindside-hit me today on a dashing Mid May morning (should have gotten my glasses earlier, perhaps I could have dodged it? No? Okay) and it turned black-candle-lighting worthy. Then again, I mean, who am I kidding? Life always hits you about one-million-seven-hundred-and-fifty-BILLION times, and it happens apparently when you think things are finally starting to coast and sparkle. When you’re trying to make sense of what you want out of your life and from your life, I think it’s best to plan these things out. However, that’s just an ironic statement in itself. “Hey Life, let’s make a bargain okay? I’ll give you one day out of the month to pretend like you’re blindsiding me, sound good? Cool.”

Image

 So anyway, the usual hysteria began in my mind today; What has this world come to? Why don’t people see how amazing it could be if people were a little more, let’s make this easier for the general public…caring? What makes sense when everything seems not to? Why aren’t things a little more…I don’t know, fucking, bright? How can I actually contribute to make those things brighter? I have a Super Woman outfit! Will that do? Oh, and why does France seem to get to take naps and holidays, like, all the time? America, take notes. I want to be apart of something bigger than myself!….(blank stare at what this could be). Real talk though; You know, those questions that begin to overwhelm you when you least expect it and sneakily undermine your absolute determination to rise above it all.

When I got home I followed with my “best” attempt. I decided to resort to a classic, past phase of complete ‘childish wisdom’ in response to those questions that randomly swarmed me; I’ll cry and cry…and cry. Then, when I open my eyes, the world will definitely have infinite amounts of lollipops and rainbows, right? Or at least perhaps, bright and beautiful pastel buildings, with clear oceans, and people smiling for absolutely no other reason than loving their life and other’s, too? Well, needless to say, my ‘childish wisdom’ let me down, but hey, it was worth the try. I sat for a moment in mascara-globbed silence to regroup. I regrouped right down to the only choice I had: Picked my 23 year old, lost-kind of-sort of, ass up, and said the following; “You’re okay, your life is a beautiful gift, and you’ll make it spectacular, for yourself, and everyone around you- if it’s the last thing you do”. So cheers, ladies (and my gents), even when life is randomly overwhelming you- remember we have to get back up and turn on the light for the world to be a little brighter. My lesson to myself, and you, today. So hug the world…(or your dog, like I did) and smile! We got this loves. xoxo

Oh, and a little inspiration on how to turn you’re day around, as I did;

 All in all, lessons learned, day past, and it was monumental in a small, but surprisingly lovely, way.

A Frank Sinatra Kinda’ Morning

ImageImage

(Photos, Maple and Shade)

This morning was filled with a trip to my beloved Smelly Cat’s Coffeehouse for Coffee Au Lait, the local Farmer’s Market, and a quick drift through the flea market where I found the cutest (French) teacup I’ve ever seen. Do I need just one teacup that I’ll never drink out of and place strategically around my apartment for decor? Absolutely. I thrive off of trinkets that I never use, addicted, yes…indeed. Anyhow, Frank Sinatra was blaring on my Itunes when I got home and I thought it made for a dashing movie-moment-morning.

Anyways, one of my favorite Interior-Design blogs, Maple and Shade, shared some lovely photos of their own beloved coffee-shop. Sadly, theirs is going out of business (in one of my FAVORITE cities, Charleston, South Carolina), and so they made one last adventurous trip to savour every last sip. Sadness.  Also, she included the inspiration-inspired (ha) photo above. Which, is absolutely where I want to be at. this. very. moment. Ahhh, Could this be an office instead? I Love.

PS…My Farmer’s Market am trip gave me some inspiration for this little lovely company, and the wonders of Honey for skin. Kinda’ amazing. Definitely hearing about it soon Dolls. 🙂
